COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Six Colorado Springs police officers were injured when a bomb simulator detonated while they were training at Fort Carson.

The Gazette reports five of the officers were treated at a hospital and released after the explosion Tuesday, and another will be hospitalized overnight as a precaution. None of the injuries was serious.

Col. Brian Wortinger, Fort Carson's garrison commander, says the simulator exploded at an urban training center near the post's Camp Red Devil.

Military units were conducting improvised explosive device training at Fort Carson, and the group of officers also training on the post encountered one of the devices, which are designed to simulate the sights and sounds of combat.

Officials could not say why the IED simulator was in an area where police were training.
