3 people burned in explosion at Cherry Creek State Park Marina

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. - Three people were burned in an explosion at Cherry Creek Marina & Yacht Club on Sunday morning.

The explosion was reported about 11 a.m. on a motorboat docked in the marina, located at 4800 S. Dayton St. in Cherry Creek State Park, according to Steve Standridge, emergency manager for with South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.

Three people had first- and/or second-degree burns and were transported to a hospital, Standridge said.

It appears the explosion was related to fuel on the boat, Standridge said, but the cause has not been determined.

There was no active fire when fire crews arrived on scene, said Standridge.
