2 people, 1 dog dead in Christmas Eve car crash in Lakewood

UPDATE | Thursday 6:45 p.m. — The two people who died in a crash on Christmas Eve have been identified.

The Chief Deputy Coroner with Jefferson County said 93-year-old Lloyd Irwin Baer and his wife, 93-year-old LaVonne Joyce Baer, died in the crash, along with a dog in the car. Both lived in Lakewood and sustained multiple blunt force injuries.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Two people and one dog are dead after a two-car rollover crash in Lakewood Tuesday night.

The crash occurred at about 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of W. Jewell Avenue and S. Wadsworth Boulevard, according to Lakewood police.

Responding officers found two vehicles with people trapped inside, police said. One vehicle, a sedan, had a man and woman inside. The woman was declared dead at the scene and the man was taken to the hospital, where he was later declared dead, police said.

The other vehicle, a pickup truck, had a man and a dog inside. The dog was declared dead at the scene and the man was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Investigators don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
