A 13-year-old girl from western Colorado admitted to deputies that she said, "I'm gonna shoot up the school," according to investigators.
Deputies questioned the girl after students at Mt. Garfield Middle School reported that the girl had posted a photo of a handgun on Facebook with the caption, "I have a gun in my backpack."
Two students told deputies the photo showed a black handgun on a pink and white backpack. One said the backpack had a green stain at the bottom.
When Deputy Chad Searcy asked the students to describe the gun, both said it "looked like yours," and pointed to his service weapon.
Deputy Searcy interviewed the suspect and her mother at their home. He searched the home but did not find the gun. He did find a pink-and-white striped backpack with a green and blue stain on the bottom.
Searcy said the suspect told him she was at another teen's house and used the teen's father's cell phone to take the photo and post it to Facebook. The suspect told Searcy she believed the gun was real.
The girl first said she took the gun to school and then said she did not, according to Searcy.
Searcy said the girl admitted saying, "I'm gonna go shoot up the school," as she walked out of her classroom Monday.
