ARVADA, Colo. – A suspected car thief who was shot by Arvada police officers Monday night has died, a spokesperson with the police department said Tuesday.
Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from the area of W. 58th Av. and Wadsworth Blvd. at around 9:07 p.m. The vehicle in question was a Ford F-550 tractor-trailer that operated as a tire repair vehicle, which police said was left unattended and running at the time it was stolen.
About 20 minutes later, at approximately 9:25 p.m., the tractor-trailer was found by police near the intersection of W. 61st Avenue and Olde Wadsworth Blvd.

As officers were attempting to try and get close to the still-running vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time, the suspect – identified as 40-year-old Isaiah P. Proctor – allegedly entered the tractor-trailer and “immediately tried to flee toward Officers,” the news release states.
The claims made by police do not specify if Proctor tried to run over the officers with the tractor-trailer but goes on to say that multiple officers on foot near the vehicle fired their weapons at him.
Proctor, who was injured in the shooting, was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. No officers were injured, police said.
The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.) responded to the scene of the shooting and will be investigating if use of force policies were violated in this shooting. Arvada Police will conduct the criminal investigation, the release states.
