ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – An Adams County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle Thursday morning near the intersection of Colorado Highway 79 and E. 88th Ave. north of Bennett.
The crash happened shortly before 8 a.m., according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gary Cutler. The deputy and the driver of the other vehicle were both taken to area hospitals, but a passenger in the vehicle that collided with the deputy died at the scene, Cutler said.
The deputy was in their patrol car and was on-duty at the time of the crash, Cutler said. He added that both the deputy and the driver, a woman, were hospitalized with serious injuries but were stable as of Thursday afternoon.
There was no information about what led to the crash as of 9:10 a.m., Cutler said. Both roads are shut down in the area and CSP is advising drivers to avoid the area.
