LEADVILLE, Colo. — One man lost his life and two others were injured in a head-on crash involving three vehicles near Leadville over the weekend.

It happened Saturday around 4 p.m. on Highway 24. The Colorado State Patrol suspects distracted driving contributed to the crash.

Troopers says a man driving a car crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a pick-up truck hauling a 5th-wheel style camper.

The driver of the car died on the scene. The driver of the pick-up was airlifted to a Colorado Springs hospital. The passenger in the truck was transported by ground to a nearby hospital.

A motorhome following behind the pick-up did not stop in time and careened through the crash scene, hitting the car. No injuries were reported in the motorhome.

The roadway was closed for six hours while crews cleared the scene and investigated the crash.

The names of those involved have not been released.
