Heating System Leak Closes Englewood High School

Repairs To Be Made; School Expected To Be Reopened Friday

Englewood High School will be closed for the rest of the day Thursday because of a glycol leak in the heating system.

The leak was reported to school administrators around 9:15 a.m. The decision to close the school at 3800 S. Logan St. was made at 9:30 a.m., according to Linda Felling of Englewood Public Schools.

Students were sent home and buses were called to pick them up.

The glycol leak was creating a bad smell within the school, but the students were not at any health risk, said Felling.

Glycol is commonly used in heating systems as a type of antifreeze, which prevents damage to the heating system in freezing temperatures.
