Adams County School District 50 is changing its name to Westminster Public Schools.
The Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday night to make the change, according to the district's spokesman.
“This is an important step for the school district because we really needed to create a new identity that not only better reflects where we are geographically, but makes a bold statement about the changes in the district over the last several years,” said Superintendent Pam Swanson.
"The vote comes after extensive research and outreach to the community which included the use of focus groups, surveys and public discussions," officials said. "The name change is also important because Adams County contains several school districts identified by number, which often leads to confusion among families, business leaders, legislators, members of the media and the general public."
