LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) — Lawyers for a teenager accused of stabbing a woman to death in northern Colorado say he was experiencing “involuntary intoxication” at the time of the slaying because of an adverse interaction between acne medication and an antidepressant.
The Longmont Times-Call reports 16-year-old Aiden von Grabow pleaded not guilty Thursday to several charges, including first-degree murder, in the Nov. 18 death of 20-year-old Makayla Grote. He is being tried as an adult.
Von Grabow is accused of killing Grote at her Longmont apartment. Police believe he intended to kill Grote’s younger sister, who prosecutors say was on his “death list.”
Judge Bruce Langer has ordered an evaluation of von Grabow’s mental condition at the time of the killing based on his lawyers’ assertion of involuntary intoxication.
