FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Fort Collins Police Department is having to respond to yet another viral video depicting an arrest.
The latest video making the rounds on social media shows a Fort Collins officer performing a controlled takedown on a female suspect Friday. An internal investigation has been launched.
According to the Fort Collins Police Department, the officer was on his way to a work assignment when he observed a speeding vehicle. The officer followed the vehicle until it parked.
Police say the officer, who appeared to be in plain clothes, approached the woman and identified himself as law enforcement. The video shows the officer showing the woman what appears to be his badge as the woman continued to walk away.
The female suspect, whose identity is not known, attempted to leave the area on foot when the officer physically restrained her, according to police. The woman was cited for careless driving and obstructing a police officer before being released.
A concerned bystander called police during the incident and took video capturing a portion of the interaction, which has raised some questions in the Fort Collins community.
Dylan Clark posted the public video on his Facebook page. He noted the incident occurred at the Eleventhirteen Apartment Complex next to the Colorado State University campus. Watch the video below:
In April, a video showing another woman being thrown to the pavement by a Fort Collins officer was quickly shared around the internet. The officer in the April 6 video was exoneratedafter an internal review found no city or department policies were violated during the arrest.
Police say the Friday arrest is under internal review. The officer involved in the arrest has yet to be identified.
