Almost 1,000 car plate have been reported stolen in the city of Denver this year so far, and the police department wants you to be aware so you can avoid becoming part of the stastic.
On Monday, a spokesperson with the Denver Police Department told 7NEWS in a statement that since the beginning of 2015, more than 950 plates were reported stolen.
Typically, plates that are stolen are used to commit crimes, the spokesperson said.
Due to the increase in thefts, officers are recommending these tips to lower your chances of having your plates stolen:
- If possible, park your vehicle inside a garage
- Park in well-lit areas, which deter criminal activities
- Install anti-theft screws, which require unique tools to remove the plates. The screws can be purchased at hardware stores or auto parts stores.
If your plates are stolen, you are asked to immediately contact the Denver Police Department.
