DENVER -- Denver police are investigating a highway shooting.

Officers responded to 19th Street and Chestnut Place in downtown Denver to investigate a person found in the roadway when suddenly, just a block away at 19th and Wewatta Street, a driver approached nearby Denver7 crews, reporting shots fired in the area.

The approaching car had bullet holes, then asked reporter Daryl Orr for help. The driver moved his vehicle to the safety of the nearby police scene.

Minutes later, the suspected shooter's vehicle drove by, but no more shots were fired and the suspected shooter got away.

Police believe at least five rounds were fired in the highway shooting. The victim's vehicle was damaged in several places, but it appears no people were injured.

Police are still investigating the shooting. They have not yet said where the shooting happened.

As for the person found in the roadway, police said the victim was unconscious, but alive when taken to the hospital.

Investigators are trying to determine if the victim was a pedestrian hit by a car or if the victim fell from a nearby building that is under construction.
