A victim who says he was robbed and pistol-whipped by accused cop shooter Jason Wood is talking exclusively to Denver7 about the horrifying moments he went through that day.
"He pulled a gun out and I looked in his eyes," said the robbery victim, who did not want to show his face or use his name for safety reasons.
Wood was wanted in connection with the September robbery when Officer Tony Lopez, Jr. pulled him over during a routine traffic stop. The suspect would later confess to shooting the Denver police officer fives times on December 8. The District Attorney believes Wood opened fire on the officer in an attempt to avoid significant prison time in the aggravated robbery case.
"And right now with him shooting that officer I'm still numb, I'm still trying to sort it [out]," said the victim.
The man also told Denver7's Liz Gelardi he hopes Wood, "burns in hell."
Charges filed in court this week allege Wood and another person went into the victim's Denver home where they assaulted two people, then stole tattoo equipment and a purse.
The victim said he began having nightmares after the robbery and now realizes how others could have been killed that night back in September. The victim said Wood and others walked into his home like they owned the place and went straight for his tattoo equipment. On the way out, he said Wood pistol-whipped him and his daughter.
"When I looked away Jason hit me with the pistol, and I came back around and my daughter jumped in front and she got hit as well... and when that happened I don't remember anything after that, I remember them running out of the house," said the victim.
Wood appeared in court this week to face formal charges in both cases.
He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and robbery in connection with the shooting of officer Lopez Jr. In the robbery case, he is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of first-degree burglary. His bond is set at $550,000.
The suspect also has a lengthy criminal history that includes previous charges for attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and escape.
