ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — An Adams County man has been charged in the death of a 3-year-old boy who was shot in July after he and his siblings were believed to be home alone with a loaded gun, officials said.

Jose Manuel Rodriguez, 32, faces charges of negligent child abuse resulting in death and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, according to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Police on July 16 responded to the 7800 block of Jasmine Drive in Commerce City, where officers found the 3-year-old boy dead of a gunshot wound. The child was home alone with his two older siblings, authorities said, and police found a loaded gun at the home.

The boy's name has not been released by authorities.

Rodriguez was advised on his charges Monday and is being held on a $20,000 bond.
