Drivers in Arapahoe County may notice deputies wearing a different color.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office is changing to black uniforms for its deputies, instead of blue.

It turns out the royal blue shirts were a special color, so the department has been paying extra for them and the dye wasn't always the same. The change will save the department $167 per uniform, according to Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Julie Brooks.

The uniforms will also have some style changes.

Brooks told Denver7 the old blue pants were stiff and had "no give," but the new black pants are like a cargo-style and thinner and will allow deputies more range of movement.

The deputies' shirts will have pull downs to reveal reflective stripes to help people better see the deputies at night.

The shirts will also have a patch with the deputy's rank to help the public better identify a deputy, Brooks explained.

Deputies will start wearing the black uniforms on May 1.
