BOULDER, Colo. – A man was detained after biting his own dog at a Boulder Whole Foods, a spokesperson for the Boulder Police Department confirmed Monday afternoon.
The man reportedly bit the dog – a black and white pit bull mix – at the Whole Foods store near the intersection of Pearl Street and 28th St., according to Boulder PD spokeswoman Shannon Aulabaugh.
Mitchell Byars, with the Boulder Daily Camera, also reported police responded to the scene after getting reports the man was not only biting the dog, but also dragging it through the store.
The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Chad Rick Naranjo, allegedly displayed a knife at responding officers but dropped it when one of the officers pulled a Taser. He is now facing concealed weapons charges.
The pit bull mix, which Aulabaugh said "did not have any visible wounds from the bite," was taken to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
Naranjo was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the attack, Aulabaugh said.
