Transportation officials have announced that major work on the $497 million U.S. 36 expansion project is now complete after three and a half years of construction.
The Daily Camera reports drivers can begin traveling the new express lanes from Louisville to Boulder as work continues on the final phase of project.
Both east and westbound Express Lanes from 88th Street in Louisville to Table Mesa in Boulder are now open. The toll fees are being waived for a brief testing period through early 2016.
Tolling on the existing US 36 Express Lanes between Federal and 88th Street - that opened in July 2015 - will still be in effect during this testing period.
The project began in July 2012 and expanded U.S. 36 from two lanes in each direction to three. The third lane is a carpool/toll lane.
Drivers using the toll lanes will eventually pay between $1.75 and $9.35, depending on the time of day and if they have a toll pass.
