AURORA, Colo. – A "suspicious device producing smoke" in a puddle turned out to be downed wires arcing in water underneath a bridge in southeast Aurora, the local police department said Saturday night.
Initial reports from police about what they said was a suspicious device forced the closure of E-470 from Smoky Hill Rd. to E. Jewell Ave. — a 6-mile stretch of road. Gun Club Rd, which runs parallel of E-470, was also closed from Belleview Ave. to E. Hampden Rd. starting at about 5:30 p.m. as a precaution.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office also got involved, sending a bomb squad to investigate a "potentially explosive device" near E-470 and Quincy.
At about 7:19 p.m., Aurora police tweeted the situation had to do with "electrical wires arcing in some water."
E-470 and Gun Club Rd. were back open several minutes after the announcement was made but E. Quincy was expected to be closed until about 8:30 p.m.
