Two adults, a child and their dog escaped a house fire early Thursday morning.

The fire started in the basement of the home on Idalia Street, near Olympic Park, about 1:20 a.m., according to the Aurora Fire Department.

Smoke detectors in the house woke the family up. They tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but it didn't work and they had to evacuate, authorities said.

No one was hurt, but the home has a hole in the roof where firefighters vented the smoke out of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
