When you're a cop, sometimes it's the calls you least expect that leave the biggest impact.

"It's kind of why I got in the line of work, to help people and do what I can," said Aurora Police Officer Ryan Wenke.

Such was the case on Saturday for Wenke and his partner, Officer Jared Krieger.

"I had to review the call and make sure I was reading it correctly," Krieger said.

Police said Girl Scout Troop 2556 was selling cookies at the King Soopers at 15109 East Colfax in Aurora when a man stole their money box with $325 inside.

"All their hard work down the drain," said Wenke.

"We want to make sure we do what we can to give back to the community, so in this instance, we decided to donate some money," Krieger said.

"Then we sent out a message department-wide telling everybody what happened," Wenke added.

That call for help was answered ten-fold.

"We had about 20 officers or more come up with their own money and either donate it or buy a box of cookies," Wenke said.

The suspect is described as a black man, 17 to 20 years-old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a white bandana, black hoodie and black pants.

If you have any information about the theft, please call Officer Jared Krieger at 303-739-6099 ext: 49278.
