DENVER – Hundreds of people, including firefighters from across Colorado, joined in to honor the late Arvada Fire Department Lt. Jim Schaefer, who passed away earlier this week while fighting cancer.
Flags were lowered to half-staff statewide Thursday in Schaefer’s honor as the 20-year veteran of the Arvada Fire Department was memorialized in a ceremony.
Schaefer passed on Sept. 10 at age 58, and is survived by his wife, three children, his mother, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was most recently stationed as the lieutenant at Arvada Fire Station 3.
Services were held at Faith Bible Chapel at 10 a.m. before a procession got underway—passing by Arvada Fire Stations 3, 4 and 6 before ending at the Fire Department Training Center.
