WIGGINS, Colo. – A student at Wiggins Middle School in northeastern Colorado is in custody after threatening to shoot his peers, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.
The student was taken into custody Thursday after the Wiggins Police Department investigated the threats and deemed them to be credible, the sheriff’s office said in a post on its Facebook page late Friday afternoon.
It’s unclear when the threats were made, or who reported the threats to police.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said charges are pending in this case, adding deputies believe there is no threat to students or staff.
On Saturday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Wiggins School District told Denver7 through a statement taht the child "openly told Wiggins P.D. and the Wiggins School District school resource officer that he planed to hurt a handful of individuals, including students at Wiggins."
The spokesperson also said all parents of students who were mentioned as possible targets were notified of the situation.
