Three people were in the Mustang, an adult male driver and two female passengers. The driver is awaiting criminal charges once he is released from a local hospital, the sheriff's office said. Brianna Reed, an 18-year-old passenger, was booked on allegations of aggravated motor vehicle theft and vehicular eluding complicit. The second passenger was not charged.

About an hour before the crash, Reed allegedly stole a Subaru that was left running at a Murphy USA gas station. Deputies said Reed was dropped off at the gas station by the unidentified man in the Mustang.

Moments later, a deputy spotted the Mustang in the parking lot of Costco and began to drive toward it when the Mustang took off, the release read. Deputies pursued the Mustang as it sped northbound on Weitzel Street and through the red light at East Harmony Road where the crash occurred.
