LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The 17-year-old boy who died following a shooting in Lakewood early Sunday morning has been identified.

Daniel Avila, 17, was identified by Lakewood police as the victim who died following the shooting near the intersection of Wadsworth Blvd. and Florida Ave.

Officers were dispatched at about 4:15 a.m. to the area and once at the scene, they found two people with gunshot wounds a couple of blocks away, police spokesman Rob Albrets said. The victims were taken to the hospital, and police later located two other victims who had gone to the hospital on their own. Police confirmed later Sunday morning that one of the victims — 17-year-old Avila —had died.

The suspect, who remains on the run, has not been identified, but police asked anyone with information about the case to call them at (303) 763-6800 or contact Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867.

Police believe the deadly shooting involved people who knew each other, but details in the investigation remain scarce.
