LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – Jury selection got underway Monday in the trial involving a 19-year-old Berthoud man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in June 2016 and dumping her body on the Western Slope.

Tanner Flores faces a trial on first-degree murder after deliberation, felony murder and second-degree kidnapping charges. If convicted during the trial, which is scheduled for 10 days, Flores faces life in prison without parole.

Earlier this summer, the court was shown a taped interview with Mesa County detectives in which Flores admitted to shooting his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Doolittle, twice, but not a third time. The third bullet is the one that killed Doolittle, according to authorities.

Flores’s arrest affidavit shows that he’d been upset that Doolittle broke up with him. Friends had told police Flores was “really down” after the breakup.

He allegedly told investigators that he shot Doolittle near Carter Lake last summer, then drove her body to Collbran—close to where his grandfather lived before passing away.
