These are the 10 most stolen cars in the Denver area

DENVER – Vehicle thefts are on the rise in Colorado. There were 19,430 reports of cars being stolen in 2016, a 22 percent jump from 2015.

What were the 10 most stolen vehicles in the Denver area? According to the Colorado Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force, Honda vehicles appear to be the most coveted among car thieves.

Here were the top ten most stolen vehicles in the Denver area from July 1 – Sep. 30, 2017:

1. Honda Civic (1988-2016) -- 336
2. Honda Accord (1989-2016) -- 241
3. Subaru Impreza (1993-2017) -- 193
4. Ford F-250 (1999-2015) -- 159
5. Ford F-350 (1996-2015) -- 102
6. Subaru Legacy (1990-2016) -- 95
7. Jeep Cherokee (1989-2017) -- 81
8. Dodge Ram Pickup (1994-2011) -- 61
9. Ford F-150 (1984-2017) -- 55
10. Subaru Forester (1998-2017) -- 52

There were 1,375 reported car thefts in the Denver metro area in just three months, which is nearly 15 cars stolen on average every day. And police say around 40 percent of those thefts are preventable. They say taking measures such as simply locking your car and putting a steering wheel lock on, will make things difficult for criminals.
