Teen formally charged after woman found dead in Elizabeth home on Halloween

ELIZABETH, Colo. — Formal charges have been filed against a 19-year-old who is accused of fatally stabbing a woman in her home on Halloween.

Christopher Sanders Leary was formally charged in Elbert County Tuesday with seven counts:

  • First-degree murder after deliberation
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Assault causing serious bodily injury
  • Four sentence-enhancement charges, ranging from violent crime causing death to violent crime/weapon used

The charges allege that Leary stabbed a 56-year-old woman in her Elizabeth home around 8:45 p.m. on Halloween.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.
