AURORA, Colo. – A man wanted in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old woman at an Aurora motel back in 2017 was arrested in Mexico this week, a spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department said Wednesday.

Arturo Garcia, now 22 years old, was wanted for first-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Alexandrea “Ally” Raber, whose lifeless body was found at the Knights Inn Motel the morning of July 2, 2017.

Raber had recently graduated from Eaglecrest High School and was to enlist in the Navy.

The victim’s family said at the time that Garcia was previously in a relationship with their daughter before it turned violent, and that they thought he was still in jail following his arrest for several domestic violent incidents.

Following her death, however, family members found out she was seeing Garcia again despite having a protection order against him.

In a news release Wednesday evening, a spokesperson from APD said Garcia was arrested in Mexico on Tuesday and was then deported to the U.S. He is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail pending extradition proceedings to move him to Colorado, where he will be prosecuted by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

"We're happy that he has been captured and can't hurt anybody else," said Raber's stepfather, Andy Starrett, after learning of his arrest.
