LONGMONT, Colo. — The suspect in a Longmont attack that left a 71-year-old bicyclist dead in early November has been arrested on separate charges.
On Friday morning, officers with the Longmont Department of Public Safety arrested Edward Herbert Hoid, 36, on a parole violation and other charges.
Hoid was named as a suspect after Randall Schubert, 71, died following an assault on Nov. 5.
On Friday around 1:10 a.m., a Longmont officer was dispatched to The Village at The Peaks along S. Hover Street and found a man, later identified as Hoid, throwing rocks at businesses, according to police. Multiple businesses and vehicles in the area had been broken into.
Those crimes are still being investigated as of Friday at 11 a.m., police said.
Hoid started running when he saw police. When the officer ordered him to stop, he did so and was handcuffed, according to police.
Police contacted a man who works security in the area who said he had seen Hoid throwing rocks at businesses. The man said he told Hoid to leave and Hoid allegedly said, "You are lucky you are not the police. Do you want to get shot?" and then reached in his pocket, according to police.
The man started to walk to the security office and Hoid allegedly followed before blocking the door. Eventually, the man was able to get inside and shut the door before calling 911. Hoid allegedly threw two chairs at the security office window, according to police.
Hoid had a felony warrant out of the Colorado Department of Corrections for parole violation.
He was transported to the Longmont Police Department to be booked in the Boulder County Jail.

According to court documents, Hoid has previously been charged with burglary, controlled substance possession, escape attempts, driving under restraint and harassment.
