AURORA, Colo. — A man in a dark hoodie caught in surveillance video robbing a cell phone repair shop in Aurora early Wednesday evening is wanted by police.
The masked suspect, described as a black male measuring 6-foot-2-inches and weighing 220 pounds, reportedly entered Fix It Wireless, located at 1074 S. Ironton St. at about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday and told employees to get down and empty their pockets. It is unclear if he had a gun.
The surveillance video, obtained by Denver7, shows the man telling the owner of the store to “get down on the ground and open the cash drawer.”
The suspect is then seeing rummaging through the cashier drawer and is heard asking for iPhone devices and a safe, before the owner replies he doesn’t have either of those things in the store.
The owner is then seen grabbing his dog, which walked over to the group when the intruder entered the store, and asking her to lay down in front of him. He kept his hand on the dog, which remained calm and on the ground, during the encounter.
The owner, who spoke with Denver7 late Wednesday, said the suspect wasn’t very smart, as the store had devices that were valuable that he neglected during the robbery. He also said the man dropped money in the store he didn’t end up taking with him.
The video also shows the owner throwing money at the suspect after the man demanded to have the owner’s money. The suspect then walks out of the store.
The owner said that responding officers with the Aurora Police Department found $26 and a store phone the suspect reportedly stole less than a block away from where the robbery occurred.
Police told the owner that both the phone and the money were leading to an apartment complex nearby.
