ROCKY FORD, Colo. – A Rocky Ford woman was arrested after an all-day search for the 21-year-old suspect police say stabbed an officer in the neck, and then stole his patrol car Tuesday afternoon.

According to a tweet from the Colorado State Patrol, troopers took Shyanne Maestas into custody Tuesday night.

She was located 25 miles north of the small Otero County town where the attack on the Rocky Ford officer occurred outside a home earlier in the day.

Police say the officer was conducting a welfare check when Maestas came out of the residence and stabbed him before fleeing in his marked cruiser.

The officer, whose name is not being released at this time, was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.

Local, state and federal agencies were searching for Maestas.
