PUEBLO, Colo. – The city of Pueblo has reached a $600,000 settlement with the family of Andrew Byrd, who was shot and killed by Pueblo police in February 2017.

Byrd, 35, was fatally shot while trying to drive away from officers, who had said he had pointed his vehicle in their direction.

A review of the shooting by the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office released in August 2017 found the three officers involved in the shooting were justified in the shooting.

“The officers had reasonable grounds to believe, and did believe, that they or another person was in imminent danger of being killed or receiving bodily injury,” District Attorney J.E. Chostner wrote in the decision.

The settlement will still have to be approved by a court. Details about the settlement were not immediately available.
