LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Police on Friday named the Lakewood officer who was seriously injured in a crash on W. Colfax Ave. Thursday afternoon and said the investigation into who was responsible for the crash was ongoing.

The officer involved in the crash is Mark O’Donnell, a 12-year-veteran of the force, Lakewood police said Friday. He remains hospitalized at St. Anthony Hospital with serious injuries.

A woman driving one of two other cars involved in the crash was hospitalized as well with non-life-threatening injuries. It was unclear whether she had been released from the hospital Friday afternoon.

Police said the Jefferson County Accident Response Team has taken over the investigation because O’Donnell was on duty at the time of the crash and was seriously injured.

While the investigation is ongoing, Lakewood police said a witness told investigators that one of the vehicles turned in front of O’Donnell’s motorcycle as he was westbound on Colfax near Wadsworth Boulevard.
