Police: 3-year-old toddler accidentally shot in Commerce City

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – A 3-year-old toddler was accidentally shot in a Commerce City home Wednesday afternoon, according to the city’s police department.

The shooting was reported at around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Nucla Street and East 96th Avenue, about a block away from the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge. 

Police said the child received medical assistance at the scene before he was taken to Children's Hospital for treatment. The child was listed as stable, Commerce City Police Department Commander Thomas said Wednesday evening. 

An investigation is continuing at the home as police work to find out how the child was shot.
