COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Police suspect a woman who crashed with a parked vehicle Saturday night may have been intoxicated, leading to the death of her 11-month-old child in Commerce City hours later.

Officers with the Commerce City Police Department, the Colorado State Patrol, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the South Adams County Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash near the intersection of E. 80th Avenue and Monaco Street on a report of a single-vehicle crash at about 9:30 p.m.

Investigators determined the vehicle was going west on E. 80th Avenue when it struck a parked vehicle.

The woman driving the vehicle and her 11-month-old daughter, who were the only occupants inside the car, were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said Sunday the infant died overnight from her injuries.

The woman remains hospitalized with serious injuries on Sunday, but her condition is unknown. It’s also unclear at this time if she will face any charges for the crash.

The investigation is still ongoing.
