GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Authorities in northern Colorado are investigating the shooting death of a man who was initially thought to have been run over by his tractor-trailer.

Cpl. Matt Turner with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Nathan Combs, of Burns, Wyoming, died near Hereford on May 18. The Greeley Tribune reports deputies at first thought Combs died doing maintenance on his truck, but they later discovered that he had been shot to death. The wound does not appear to have been self-inflicted.

Turner says the sheriff’s office waited to release information until investigators were certain about the circumstances of the death. He adds that investigators do not believe the death is related to a string of unsolved shootings on northern Colorado highways in recent years.
