LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – A man suspected of causing a deadly crash that killed two people on Thanksgiving Day while driving a stolen truck that was used to burglarize a pawn shop in Fort Collins is facing multiple murder charges, a spokesperson for Fort Collins Police Services said Thursday.
Marcos Orozco, 19, has been formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, vehicular eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree burglary and aggravated first-degree motor vehicle theft in the burglary and deadly crash.
Orozco was arrested following the crash and booked into Larimer County Jail, where his bond remains at $450,000.
He is suspected of stealing a flatbed truck from a man’s cattle feed lot near Ault on late Nov. 21 or early Nov. 22 before the burglary at the Fort Collins pawn shop.
Police said he drove the truck into the pawn shop in the 2900 block of S. College Ave. just after 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 22, stoling several weapons and fleeing the scene.
Around 9:45 a.m. that day, police were called about a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Caribou Dr. and Arctic Fox Drive after the person who called saw several firearms inside the truck.
When police confronted Orozco in the truck, he fled but police did not pursue him.
But shortly afterward, Orozco allegedly caused another crash between the stolen truck and two other vehicles then crashed into a nearby business.
Fort Collins police discovered that the stolen vehicle involved was the same one used in the pawn shop burglary and the same one stolen from the feed lot.
