ARVADA, Colo. — First degree murder charges were filed in the strangulation death of a 38-year-old woman whose body was found inside a parked car in Arvada last month, First Judicial District Attorney Pete Weir announced Monday.

The charges come after Arvada police obtained an arrest warrant last week for Christopher Moffat, 36, in connection with the death of Veronica Sarinana.

Sarinana’s body was found in a parked car in the area of 6400 Welch Court on the morning of June 19.

Moffat and Sarinana had previously been in a relationship, according to the arrest affidavit. The coroner determined the cause of death to be manual strangulation.

Moffat is currently being held at the Garfield County Jail on unrelated charges, but he is scheduled to appear in the Jefferson County District Court on August 6.
