DENVER – Deputies in El Paso County arrested a 32-year-old woman Tuesday who is suspected of child abuse resulting in the death of her 2-year-old son.

Melissa Adamson, 32, was booked into the El Paso County jail Tuesday. Law enforcement officials said last week they were not investigating the boy’s death as a homicide but said charges were pending before her arrest Tuesday.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out to a home in the 1500 block of Hartford Street in regard to a shooting on Oct. 21. Adamson had the boy in her arms, the sheriff’s office said. The boy died after being transported to an area hospital.

The sheriff’s office announced Adamson’s arrest early Tuesday afternoon but has so far not released further details about the incident or her arrest. A mug shot was not immediately available.

Court records show the warrant for her arrest carries a $10,000 bond. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said Adamson would likely make her first court appearance on Wednesday.
