DENVER (AP) — A man who punched and kicked two people in Denver while yelling racial slurs has been convicted of a hate crime.

Prosecutors announced Friday that 43-year-old Ryan Lee was found guilty of two counts of bias motivated crime and two counts of third-degree assault. He faces up to 15 years in prison.

Lee was accused of reaching through a car window and punching the driver with a closed fist March 2, 2018. Investigators say the passenger was walking away when Lee threw him to the ground and kicked him repeatedly while yelling racial slurs.

At the time of the attack, Lee was serving a suspended sentence for wielding a hammer and yelling racial epithets at a mixed-race family at a park. One of the family members was a 7-year-old boy.
