COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Authorities arrested a man last Friday who is suspected of trying to lure three children into his car in Colorado Springs in late July.

Michael John Garbacz, 46, faces child enticement and attempted second-degree kidnapping charges after his arrest in Chaffee County.

According to Colorado Springs police, someone reported that Garbacz was trying to lure the three children into his car on the afternoon of July 28 in the 300 block of East St. Elmo Avenue. When the person who called 911 confronted Garbacz, he left the area.

At the time, all police knew was a white man between ages 40 and 50, with short hair and facial hair was the suspect. He had been driving a maroon Chevrolet Impala.

Further investigation by the violent crimes and Crimes Against Children units of the Colorado Springs Police Department led to investigators identifying Garbacz as the suspect.

A judge issued a warrant for Garbacz last Thursday, and he was arrested the next day in Chaffee County.

Police are now asking anyone who was a witness to the alleged enticement or knows anything more to call police at 719-444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP.
