DENVER — A judge sentenced a 37-year-old work-release inmate to five years in prison for threatening a good Samaritan who came to his aid following a crash in April of last year.
Jonathan Singlevich pleaded guilty in January to the original count of menacing and was sentenced Friday in Denver District Court. The additional charge of second-degree kidnapping was dismissed as part of his plea.
According to a statement from the Denver District Attorney's Office, Singlevich crashed his car on Interstate 70 and then threatened and forced a passerby, who stopped to see if the suspect was OK, to drive him to a nearby motel.
Free on work release at the time of the incident, prosecutors say Singlevich failed to return to a Denver community corrections facility after the crash. A judge gave him an additional year for attempted escape.
