DENVER – A man has been formally charged for an auto-pedestrian crash that happened May 25 and killed a 59-year-old man.

Isaac Paz, 22, faces one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, a third-degree felony, and two traffic infractions.

He is accused of hitting 59-year-old Victor Barela, who was lying in the street near W. Evans Ave. and S. Bryant Street, in the early morning hours of May 25. Barela died after being taken to an area hospital, but Paz allegedly failed to stop and check for injuries to Barela or to notify police.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office says Paz was arrested on May 28 and charges against him were filed last Thursday.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on June 13 for his 2nd advisement of charges.
