Man dies in stabbing on Auraria Campus in downtown Denver

DENVER — One person died in a stabbing on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver on Tuesday, police said.

The stabbing happened about 11:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of St. Francis Way. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Richard Ford III, is not believed to be associated with the campus, which is shared by Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University and the University of Colorado Denver, police said.

The suspect left the campus on a light-rail train, campus police said. Police described the suspect as a black man in a black hoodie and black pants and he was wearing black shoes with an orange or red highlight on them.

The suspect and victim were involved in a lunch line at a church that provides food for the homeless and others in need.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call Denver Metro Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
