WESTMINSTER, Colo. – The second man arrested in connection with Thursday’s police shooting in Westminster, which left one man dead, faces a theft charge, police said Friday.

Jousha Valencia, 44, is accused of being involved in a theft in the 118000 block of Sheridan Blvd. that preceded the shooting.

According to police, officers were called to the address just after 2 p.m. Thursday on a call that a man was threatening a loss-prevention officer with a knife.

Valencia fled the scene on foot and the man who was eventually shot by police fled in a car, police said Friday.

Valencia was arrested nearby and was charged with one count of theft of items worth between $300 and $750.

The other man, who has not yet been identified by the coroner’s office, was involved in a pursuit with Westminster police. At one point, according to Westminster police, the man drove his vehicle toward an officer who was outside his patrol car.

That officer fired at the man, who died after being taken to an area hospital. The officer was not injured.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is investigating the police shooting.
