DENVER — The man accused of stabbing a co-worker to death at the Sysco food service plant in Denver has been formally charged.
Dawaune Ellis, 24, was charged in Denver District Court Monday with one count of murder in the first degree and one count of possession of a weapon by previous offender.
Ellis is accused of stabbing and killing 28-year-old Anthony Miles-Hollis to death at the warehouse, located in the 5000 block of North Beeler Street. The stabbing happened around 9:30 p.m. on April 5.
Miles-Hollis was stabbed several times and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
An affidavit for Ellis’s arrest says that Miles-Hollis had told others at the warehouse that Ellis had punched him in the face and given him a bloody nose before the stabbing occurred.
Another employee told police he’d watched Ellis come up from behind Miles-Hollis and stab him at least five times, then watched Ellis flee the scene.
Ellis remained at large for several days after the stabbing – even after police offered a $2,000 reward for his capture and prosecution. He was taken into custody last Tuesday.
Ellis’ first court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
