DENVER (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a man who led a three-state drug operation has been sentenced to life in prison.
Colorado U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer says Jorge Loya-Ramirez was sentenced on Tuesday after a jury in March convicted him of distribution of methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and other drug conspiracy charges.
Prosecutors say Loya-Ramirez was the leader of a methamphetamine syndicate, using violence, intimidation and deadly weapons and a team of employees to distribute hundreds of pounds of the drug.
He was arrested in 2015 with more than a kilogram of cocaine and about half a pound of methamphetamine.
Troyer’s office says Loya-Ramirez was the last defendant tried as part of a 28-person drug conspiracy that operated in Colorado, California and Kansas.
