COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Colorado psychiatrists have determined a man accused of stabbing to death his two young siblings was "completely sane" at the time of the attacks.
The Gazette reported Monday that a judge has scheduled 21-year-old Malik Murphy's trial for Feb. 18.
Murphy has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the October 2017 killings of 5-year-old Sophia and 7-year-old Noah Murphy.
He is also accused of stabbing his father in the neck at their Colorado Springs home.
Law allows Murphy's attorneys to seek a competing mental health evaluation , but public defender Adam Steigerwald told the court that no qualified provider was willing to perform the assessment for state rates.
Court documents say Malik Murphy told police that he planned to kill his entire family and bury them in the backyard.
