FLORENCE, Colo. – Two federal prison inmates who escaped from the Federal Prison Camp near Florence over the weekend were apprehended Monday by deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Gomez, 22, and Guillermo Montano, 39, were reported missing Sunday night from the facility, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Both men were spotted at around 11:25 a.m. walking east on the railroad tracks near the area of Carlisle Road and Hobson Road in western Pueblo County by a Union Pacific Railroad employee, the release states.

Both Pueblo County Sheriff’s deputies and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers responded to the area once they were notified.

Deputies say railroad traffic in the area was halted as deputies searched for both suspects for approximately one-and-a-half mile.

Gomez and Montano were spotted sitting next to the tracks before they were taken into custody without incident at around 12:10 p.m., the release states. The men were found about two miles west of Swallows Road.

Both suspects were assessed by medical personnel before they were taken to Pueblo County Jail and released to Federal Bureau of Prison officials.
